Why do restaurants call it a drive thru when you don't really drive through the restaurant?

The reason why I am asking is because I am always wondering since I live near a McDonald's, Tim Horton's and soon to be Subway which I think I heard it is going to have a drive thru at that one. But anyways your not really driving through the restaurant your just going around it. So why don't they call it a drive around, instead.

They are also called "drive-through-restaurants"...



In the sense of the spelling there many places have decided to use the word "thru" instead of through.



Also the only reason why they decided to use the term drive through because @ first there were drive-ins where cars would park (stay in place), then have their food brought to them. Then the term drive-through was coined cause it was the only term that seemed grammatically correct (think of drive-go's....), even though you are not going through the restaurant you are moving through the process of ordering and receiving compared to a drive in...where you would sit in one spot and receive your food.
